Windy City Racks developed out of an interest in Chicago history, nostalgia for print journalism, and love of a good DIY project.
Every decommissioned newspaper rack that we acquire is first disassembled and thoroughly cleaned. Each box is treated as an art piece, ensuring every part is properly painted through a multi-step sanding and painting process. As a defining feature of Windy City Racks, we install bold, colorful interior lighting that accentuates whatever you decide to display inside.
Instead of ending up in scrapyards or landfills, these upcycled newspaper boxes now receive a ‘new lease on life’, being displayed in homes, offices, event spaces and other places as bar carts, vinyl record player stands, display shelves and more.
